Historical Data. Data for past school years are now more accessible. You can use the new "Year" options row (above WINSS graphs and tables) to access graphs, tables, and downloads for any WINSS topic/year combination you choose. This "Year" options row appears on every page unless "Compare To: Prior Years" is selected. For more information see Graph and Table Options and step 2 of Download Option 2.

 


Highlights of Summer/Fall 2011 Changes


Download Options. You can now download a single file with data about all schools and districts statewide for any WINSS topic you choose. A link to "Download data for all schools and districts statewide" has been added near the bottom of every WINSS data page. More information is available on the WINSS Download Options page (Option 2).
Comparing Districts/Schools Statewide. You can now view on-line data for all schools or all districts statewide on a single screen. On the "Compare To" row above any WINSS graph or table, click on "Selected Districts/Schools". On the "Selecting Multiple Schools/Districts" screen, click on the "Statewide" GO button under step 2.

Highlights of Winter/Spring 2010 Changes


Data Analysis Section Rewrite. 2010 is the 10th anniversary of WINSS. The entire WINSS Data Analysis Section was recently rewritten to take advantage of new technologies and to move away from techologies that have been deprecated since WINSS was originally launched. User enhancements were included as part of the rewrite. See list.
URL Changes. Note that the new URL for the Data Analysis Section home page is http://data.dpi.state.wi.us/data/ . Use of the old home page URL, http://data.dpi.state.wi.us/data/selschool.asp, will result in an automatic redirect to the new URL, but to prevent future problems, personal bookmarks and links from other websites should be updated soon. If you have bookmarked or are direct linking from your website to WINSS graph pages containing data for a specific topic/school, these bookmarks/links need to be updated now. URL changes were required by the recently completed Data Analysis Section Rewrite.
Download Options. Selected statewide download files have been updated. 2008-09 files are now available for ACT, Graduation/Completion, Attendance, and Dropouts. 2009-10 fall enrollment files by economic status, English proficiency, and primary disability have also been added. Go to Using WINSS Download Options, and scroll to "Single Statewide File for all CESAs Combined" near the bottom of the page.

Highlights of Fall 2006 Changes


Statewide Test Results. The WSAS Scatterplots tool has been updated to reflect the expanded set of tested grades and to included the combined grades option. It is also now possible to download all the data used in the creation of the scatterplots.
Other Data Updates. 2004-05 dropouts, graduates, attendance, and postgraduation plans have been added. 2005-06 teacher qualifications data have also been added.

 


Highlights of Summer 2006 Changes


Statewide Test Results. Combined Grades option has been added. Users select a subject (Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies) and then select the "Combined Grades" option from the "Grade" row above the graph. The Similar Schools/Districts tool has been updated to reflect the expanded set of tested grades.
Enrollment Update. 2005-06 public enrollment by grade, gender, race/ethnicity, English language proficiency, disability status, primary disability, and poverty status have been added.
Other Data Updates. 2005-06 ACT scores, 2004-05 school-supported activities (offerings and participation), district spending, coursetaking, course offerings, student suspension and expulsion rates, and incidents resulting in suspension or expulsion have been added.

 


Highlights of Spring 2006 Changes


Statewide Test Results. November 2005 results have been posted. Students in grades 3 and 5-7 are now included in statewide reading and mathematics testing. Students at grades 4, 8, and 10 continue to be tested in reading, language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Counts of students are combined across grades and proficiency categories and are used retroactively to November 2003. Statewide test results can now be downloaded directly from WINSS pages to facilitate further data analysis by users.
Other Data Updates. 2005-06 adequate yearly progress reports , 2004-05 advanced placement program exam results, 2004-05 graduation requirements, and 2004-05 truancy rates had been added.

Special Education Data. Enrollment by primary disability and dropouts by disability status have been added.
Data Updates. 2004-05 enrollment by grade, gender, race, disability, and economic status have been added. Staff, teacher qualifications, and ACT data have been updated.

Highlights of May 2005 Changes


Data Updates. More 2003-04 data have been added including grade advancement/retention, finance, school-supported activities, truancy, attendance, suspensions, and expulsions. 2004-05 statewide test results have been posted.

 


Highlights of February 2005 Changes


Download Options. Users can now download all data on WINSS for specific Data Analysis questions. Select years, locations, and questions of interest. Each year, location, and question are included in a separate file. Data are zipped and in comma delimited format. Click on "Download Options" (on left side of most graphs pages and on the Data Analysis home page) or go to WINSS Download Options. For more information, see Using WINSS Download Options.
Data Updates. 2003-04 coursework, staff, and graduation requirements have been added. District and school websites and athletic conferences have also been updated.


Highlights of Summer 2004 Changes


Download Data from Page. Users can now download CSV files containing all the information displayed on any WINSS data analysis page plus codes and counts that might be useful in combining data across years, topics, categories or groups. Click on "Download data from this page" (below the WINSS graph/table) to request a csv file. As with screen versions of these data, some data are not reported to protect student privacy.
Wisconsin Alternate Assessment (WAA) Results. Users can now view WKCE and WAA results by proficiency level with percents combined or reported separately. One to two percent of students statewide take WAA in lieu of WKCE. Performances on WKCE and WAA are reported according to the same four proficiency categories: advanced, proficient, basic, minimal performance. Proficiency categories for students with limited English proficiency participating in WAA describe achievement levels that correspond to WKCE categories. Proficiency categories for students with disabilities participating in WAA describe achievement levels below the range tested on WKCE. Combined WAA and WKCE results are available beginning with November 2002 results. WAA performances by proficiency category were not collected in prior years.

Highlights of March 2004 Changes


More Report Card Data. Teacher qualifications data have been added. This includes state, district, and school data about Wisconsin license status, ESEA qualified status, experience, and education level by subject taught.
Scatterplots. Scatterplots have been added to compare qualifications of teachers (e.g. Wisconsin license status, experience, education, etc.) in your district/school to other districts/schools in the state, your CESA, or your county, and to examine possible associations between teacher qualifications and other variables (e.g. school poverty level, district or school size, district spending, % students of color).
Data Updates. 2002-03 school performance report data have been added.

Navigation and Other Improvements. Switch from district to school views with one click. Viewing "Current Year Data Only" has been added to the "Compare To" options.
WSAS Scatterplot Improvements. Scatterplots can be enlarged to improve readability by clicking on "Show Large Graph" on left side of page. You can identify districts and schools in the plots by clicking on a link below the graph, "View All Districts'/Schools' Data in Scatterplot."
